Open the homepage before editing it. Homepage controls are different from folder and profile controls.

Choose a homepage layout

Open the Settings & Layouts tab → Layout Options. Available layouts include: Changing a layout does not delete content. Review crops, titles, buttons, and media afterward. If you use Static Pill Folders, turn Show Card Texture off to remove the diagonal texture from its folder buttons. Turn it on to restore the texture. An unchanged setting keeps the textured appearance.

Manage homepage slideshow photos and videos

The active layout determines the workflow:
  • Classic, Logo Spotlight, Carousel, Scrolling Folders, Static Folders, Static Pill Folders, and Split Screen Spotlight use the Images & Videos tab → Edit Homepage Slideshow for the background slideshow.
  • Announcements uses the Settings & Layouts tab → Edit Homepage Photos for the photo and video area on the right. Image widgets added with the + button are separate.
These slideshows appear on desktop-sized screens and touchscreens. A phone-sized view uses a different presentation. Changing the slideshow does not create a new, freely positioned panel on the homepage. Use 16:9 images for a classic slideshow. Crop a copy before uploading so faces and text stay inside the visible area.

Add or remove homepage slides

  1. Open the homepage in the site editor.
  2. For Announcements, click the Settings & Layouts tab (gear icon). For the other layouts above, click the Images & Videos tab (stacked-images icon).
  3. Click Edit Homepage Photos for Announcements, or Edit Homepage Slideshow for the other layouts.
  4. Upload the photos or video files you want to include, or choose them from Browse Media Library. Keep any existing slides you still want.
  5. To take a slide out of the homepage slideshow, select Remove on that photo or video.
  6. Close the slideshow window and check the homepage preview. Check the display after it refreshes, too.
Photos and videos play in a repeating sequence. Homepage slideshow videos play without sound. To let visitors open a YouTube video from the homepage, add a YouTube Video homepage button instead.

Make still photos move or use a finished video

For gentle movement on still photos in the background slideshow, open the Colors & Styling tab → Background and turn on Background Slideshow Ken Burns. This slowly zooms and pans the photos. It does not affect the Announcements photo area. Browser or display settings that reduce motion may turn this movement off. If you want a video with your own transitions or timing, create the finished video first, then add it through the slideshow control for your layout. Uploading separate photos adds separate slides; it does not turn them into a finished video. See video upload limits before uploading.

Can I change the duration of individual slideshow images?

On Announcements, open Settings & Layouts → Announcement Slide Duration and enter a time from 1 to 60 seconds. This sets one display time for all still photos, not a separate time for each image. Videos play through before the next slide. Other homepage layouts do not currently offer a slide-duration control. For different timing on individual photos, create a finished video and add it to the slideshow.

Restore a missing Explore button

On a layout that supports it:
  1. Open the homepage.
  2. Click the Text & Titles tab (letter T icon).
  3. Enter a value in Start Button Text, such as Explore.
A blank Start Button Text hides the button. This only affects the homepage button. To keep the left site navigation sidebar closed by default, use Site Navigation Default Open on the main folders page. The site navigator cannot be permanently hidden or disabled. To change the Explore button font, open the Text & Titles tab → Font Settings → Card Title Font. The button has no separate font field. For its text color, open the Colors & Styling tab → Advanced Options, enable custom colors, and set Start Button Text Color.

Update the logo and title

  • Use the Images & Videos tab → Primary Logo for the top-left logo.
  • Use the Text & Titles tab → Title for the site title.
  • Use the Text & Titles tab → Font Settings for site-title, card-title, and paragraph fonts.
To make profile descriptions use a consistent font, open the homepage Text & Titles tab → Font Settings and set Paragraph Font. Description text uses that font even when you paste text with a different font. Headings in descriptions use Card Title Font. Changing the site fonts updates existing descriptions without editing each profile; bold, italic, links, and lists stay the same. Review a profile in the preview and public site after changing fonts. Use a clean, high-resolution logo. A transparent PNG usually works best when the design should sit over a background. For a special event, save the current homepage media before replacing images or slides. Restore the originals afterward. Keep folder titles short enough to fit the active cards, or choose a layout that gives titles more room.

Edit the Home Description

On a homepage layout that displays Home Description, click the Text & Titles tab and use the formatting controls to edit the description. You can also select the displayed description with Easy Edit. For text written in another language, follow Set content languages. Preview the homepage after saving. The description appears only on layouts that support it.

Set colors safely

Use the Colors & Styling tab for the primary color and advanced options. Check contrast for text, buttons, headers, and cards. If two school colors are hard to read together, use a lighter or darker companion color.

Add homepage buttons

For website placement and QR code steps, see Connect external content to Rocket. While you are signed in, click the + button on the homepage. Supported widget types can include an entry link, X feed, Instagram, image, calendar, QR code, custom QR code, YouTube video, embedded website, Photo Booth, or text announcement. Hover over an existing button and select the gear icon (Edit page setting) to edit it.

Configure Photo Booth

Add a Photo Booth homepage button with the + button, or select the gear icon on an existing Photo Booth button. In Frame Mode, choose Auto-Generate to use the site’s primary color and primary logo when available. Use Top Text and Bottom Text to customize this frame. New Photo Booth buttons start with Show Your School Spirit at the top and Strike a Pose! at the bottom.

Use your own Photo Booth frame

  1. Edit the Photo Booth homepage button.
  2. Set Frame Mode to Upload Your Own Frame.
  3. Open Manage Filters and upload your frame as a PNG image. Leave the area where the person’s face will appear transparent.
  4. Reorder or remove frames in Manage Filters, then choose the one you want under Selected Frame.
  5. Open Photo Booth and check the preview. Then take a photo and scan its QR code to check the saved photo.
Photo Booth opens with Frame selected. Visitors can choose Frame, Helmet, Grad Cap, or one of your uploaded frames. Their choice appears in the preview and the photo they take. Your uploaded frames stay available if you remove and later re-add the Photo Booth button, unless you delete the frames themselves. Switching Frame Mode keeps your settings. If Photo Booth cannot show your uploaded frame, it displays a message and uses the automatic frame instead. Check the preview before taking another photo.

Open an Instagram profile

Add or edit an Instagram homepage button and enter the account handle. Handles work with or without a leading @. On a desktop browser or touchscreen, selecting the button opens the Instagram feed in a Rocket dialog. On a phone-sized browser, it opens the configured Instagram profile in a new tab.

Manage sponsors

Use the homepage Images & Videos tab → Advanced Options for site-wide sponsor and presenting-sponsor images. To show a different sponsor set on one page or folder:
  1. Open the page or folder in the site editor.
  2. Open the Images & Videos tab → Sponsors.
  3. Add or reorder images under Sponsors or Presenting Sponsors.
  4. Review the page in the web preview and on the published site.
The two lists work independently. Adding an image under Sponsors replaces the usual site-wide sponsor images on that page. Adding an image under Presenting Sponsors does the same for presenting sponsors. If either list is empty, the page uses the matching site-wide list instead. Remove all images from a page’s list to use the site-wide sponsors again. To make a sponsor logo open a profile:
  1. Make sure the sponsor profile is published.
  2. Select Edit profile link on the logo.
  3. Choose the published profile.
  4. Select Save link.
A reused sponsor logo is one shared Media Library item. Its linked profile and description apply everywhere that item is used. If two sponsor placements need different linked profiles or descriptions, upload separate copies so each placement uses a different Media Library item. For a sponsor logo, start with a 1000 × 1000 pixel PNG. Use a transparent background when one is available. Rocket scales the image to fit the sponsor area, so it does not need to match the full screen dimensions. This size is a practical recommendation, not a hard upload requirement. Sponsor Style controls whether the bottom sponsor area appears. None hides it even when sponsor images are assigned.
  1. Open the homepage in the website editor.
  2. Open Settings & Layouts → Sponsor Style.
  3. Choose Left or Full instead of None.
  4. Check the homepage preview. If the logo is still missing, check that it is assigned to the sponsor images, not only uploaded to the Media Library.
This setting controls the regular sponsor area, which is separate from presenting sponsors.

Play video while the touchscreen is inactive

Open the homepage in the website editor, click the Images & Videos tab, and use Homepage Screensaver Video to choose the video shown while the touchscreen is inactive. Preview the result on the physical display after it syncs.
