You can display an external website on your Rocket homepage or inside a folder. Start with where you want visitors to find it and whether you want them to view it in Rocket or open it on a phone. To put your Rocket site on your organization’s existing website, use Embed or share Rocket on your website.

Add a website to the homepage

Homepage buttons are added and edited on the homepage itself. When you are signed in, editing controls appear there: a + button to add a homepage button, and a gear icon (Edit page setting) when you hover over an existing one. If you closed the editing bar, open it again to see these controls.
  1. Sign in and go to your Rocket homepage.
  2. Select the + button and choose Embedded Website.
  3. Enter a short label and the full website address (URL) in Website Link.
  4. Review the result in the preview. Changes save automatically.

Add a website inside a folder

  1. Open the folder where you want the website.
  2. In Settings & Layouts, select Add Content, then Website.
  3. Open the new website item and its Text tab.
  4. Enter the full URL in Website URL to be displayed and review the preview.
Website content is available inside folders; it is not limited to homepage buttons. You can also ask Rocket Assistant to help with this.

Add a QR code for an external website

Use a Custom QR Code homepage button to let visitors open the website on their phones.
  1. Sign in and go to your Rocket homepage.
  2. Select +, then Custom QR Code.
  3. Enter the destination’s full URL in Website Link.
  4. Scan the code with a phone to confirm it opens the right page.
Built-in QR Code and Custom QR Code buttons belong on the homepage. QR Code opens your Rocket site; Custom QR Code uses the URL you enter. On a touchscreen, the Custom QR Code button does not offer Open linked page; visitors scan it with a phone. In a regular web browser, that action remains available.

If you need a QR code inside a folder

If you need the code in a folder but the website’s owner does not allow its pages to appear inside Rocket, upload a QR code image into a profile in that folder. Open the profile’s Media tab and upload it under Main Photo / Headshot or Add Photos and Videos. Scan the displayed image to check that it is readable and opens the right page. This adds an image to a profile, not a built-in QR code button to the folder. Start with the website content or homepage button above unless you need this workaround.

Fix an iframe error

An iframe displays one website inside another. Some websites have security settings that prevent their pages from appearing inside Rocket. Ask the person who manages that website whether they can allow your Rocket site, and send them your Rocket website address. They may see the setting named Content-Security-Policy or X-Frame-Options. Changing a touchscreen or browser setting cannot bypass that website’s restrictions. If the page works on a laptop but not on the school network, ask school IT to check whether the external destination is blocked. Test the same URL on both networks. When a visitor taps a description link on a touchscreen, Rocket may display a QR code so they can continue on a phone.

Connect social media pages

Some social networks do not allow their pages to appear inside another website or require visitors to sign in. Use a normal link or Custom QR Code unless the service provides an option for displaying its content inside other websites.

Connect a live stream

You may be able to show a live stream from a supported video service. Before the event, check that visitors can open it, that playback starts as expected, and that it works at the scheduled time on the school network.

Connect a donation page

If your site has a Givebutter Donation Widget, you can use it for your donation page. For other donation pages, use a link or Custom QR Code. Open the link or scan the code to check that it reaches the right page before sharing it.

Display a calendar

Use a Calendar homepage button or a supported embedded calendar. Confirm the source calendar is public or authorized for the intended audience and test it on the school network.

When do homepage calendar events update?

While the homepage is open, Rocket checks the event information shared by your connected calendar every 15 minutes. Once the calendar service shares an added, edited, or removed event, Rocket can show the change without reloading the screen. This also updates a calendar window that is already open. If a check fails, Rocket keeps the last events it loaded and tries again later. If events are still missing, check that your calendar service includes them in the shared calendar link (also called a feed) and that the link opens without signing in. Your calendar service may take time to share changes. The 15-minute check does not make that happen sooner and does not apply to a calendar displayed through a separate embedded website.

Get help

If the connection still fails, email support@rocketalumnisolutions.com. Send the Rocket page link and the website link you tried to add. Tell us what happens when you open it, and include any error message or a screenshot. If you already tried another network, tell us whether it worked there.
