# Manage the public site, search, and privacy

> Navigate the public site, test visibility, improve search and filters, and keep sensitive content private

Anyone with the public Rocket URL or QR code can view content marked visible. Publish only content your school is authorized to share.

## Test what visitors can see

1. Copy the public page or folder URL.
2. Open a private browser window while signed out.
3. Confirm the visible content, navigation, media, and filters.
4. Test the page on a phone as well as a larger screen.

The public site is mobile-friendly. Editing still requires a desktop, laptop, or tablet.

## Return to the touchscreen homepage

On folder lists, folders, and profiles, select the **Home** button above **Search** in the page controls. It returns directly to that site's homepage. The control does not appear while you are already on the homepage.

## Hide unfinished content

Use the eye or visibility control on the item or folder. Hidden content stays available to admins but does not appear to visitors.

Do not rely on being able to limit a public item to selected visitors. If content should not be public, keep it hidden.

## Improve search results

Visitors can search the text in your available site content. Use clear, consistent:

* Titles and names
* Years and dates
* Programs, sports, teams, and awards
* Descriptions and biographies
* Folder labels

If search returns no result, check spelling, visibility, active filters, searchable fields, and whether the visitor is searching the expected folder or the whole site.

When search filters extend beyond the available width, scroll the **Search filters** row horizontally to reach the remaining choices. Select **View All** to remove the content-type filter.

## Keep filters consistent

Filters group profiles that have the same information, such as a sport or year. Use the same spelling and spacing on each profile. For example, use either “Girls Soccer” or “Girls' Soccer” consistently so visitors do not see two choices for the same sport.

A field with several values separated by commas can show each value as a separate filter choice. For example, `Soccer, Tennis` can become two choices. Use commas and spaces consistently across entries.

## Fix an empty public folder

Check the folder and everything inside it. The folder may be public while its contents are hidden, unpublished, deleted, moved, or excluded by a filter.

If your site has **Show Published Folders When Empty** turned on, an empty published folder can appear with **More content coming soon!**. That does not publish any hidden items. See [show published folders before their content is ready](https://rocketalumnisolutions.mintlify.site/content/folders-and-layouts.md#show-published-folders-before-their-content-is-ready) to change the setting.

## Protect private information

### Hide the accessibility QR code without disabling accessibility

1. In the website editor, open **Menu → Site Settings → General**.
2. Turn on **Hide Accessibility Button QR Code**. Leave **Hide Accessibility Button** off so visitors can still open the accessibility controls.
3. Select **Save changes**.
4. Open the touchscreen's accessibility menu and confirm that its QR code is hidden and the other controls remain available.

Turn the QR setting off and save to show it again. This setting hides only the QR code in the accessibility menu. People can still open your site or yearbooks with a link. It does not make the site private or hide other QR codes you added elsewhere.

### Review public content

* Follow the school's privacy and consent policies.
* Publish only authorized student and community information.
* Keep uncertain content hidden until the school approves it.
* Never put passwords, private network details, or internal notes in public content.
* Review visitor submissions before publishing them.

## Can visitors access the website editor from the touchscreen?

A properly configured touchscreen stays in kiosk mode, which keeps visitors inside Rocket and hides the editing controls. Admin access still requires an invited account.
