# Elo Backpack hardware setup

> Connect your Elo Backpack computer to the touchscreen, enroll with EloView, and let Rocket deploy your site

Use this guide to set up an **Elo Backpack Computer Module** connected to your touchscreen. Rocket will enroll the device and link your site remotely.

> [!NOTE]
>
> These steps apply to the Elo Backpack configuration shown below. For a ClearDigital Way installation, use the [ClearDigital Way setup guide](https://rocketalumnisolutions.mintlify.site/setup/cleardigital-way-screen.md). If you are using your own hardware, see the [own-hardware setup guide](https://rocketalumnisolutions.mintlify.site/setup/own-hardware.md), or contact [Rocket support](https://rocketalumnisolutions.mintlify.site/getting-started/get-support.md) to confirm your setup.

If you are using your own hardware, please [reference this document to enter kiosk mode.](https://rocketalumnisolutions.mintlify.site/setup/own-hardware.md)

\*\*IMPORTANT: Be sure to Enroll with EloView in Step 7\*\*

Step 1: Locate the Elo Backpack Computer Module (*the small black box, NOT the touchscreen*)

Step 2: Email the Serial Number on the back of the Elo Backpack Computer Module (*10-digit number above the barcode*) to support\@rocketalumnisolutions.com. For the email, use the subject: "Serial Number - \[Your School Name]"

Step 3: Plug the Elo Backpack Computer Module into the touchscreen via HDMI ***and*** USB

Step 4 (OPTIONAL): If not using Wi-Fi, plug the Elo Backpack into ethernet

Step 5: Power on the touchscreen and the Backpack *(if asked for a password, the default screen password is 1elo or rocket)*

Step 6: Connect to Wi-Fi

\*Step 7: Choose Enroll with EloView *(****DO NOT**** choose GMS or Android)\**

![Elo setup options with Enroll with EloView outlined in red](https://mintcdn.com/rocketalumnisolutions/5IQjlY--arQvN3gU/images/setup/elo-backpack/eloview.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=5IQjlY--arQvN3gU\&q=85\&s=3b69ed3191c0f125eb1ea3f0b8ad26f9)

Step 8: You will see a screen to create an account, DO NOT create your own account--we will use a Rocket account

Step 9: Once the account is set up by a Rocket team member the device will reboot. You will then see the message: “This device has not been set up” or “No content is configured for this device”. The Rocket Alumni Solutions team will set up your device and deploy the content remotely.

![Elo screen displaying No content is configured for this device](https://mintcdn.com/rocketalumnisolutions/5IQjlY--arQvN3gU/images/setup/elo-backpack/not-configured.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=5IQjlY--arQvN3gU\&q=85\&s=ea7c1a6c37684911a066310dcfcab1d2)

Step 10: Once your site has been linked to the Elo Backpack by a Rocket team member it will appear on your screen

**Step 11: Once the Rocket site appears, please email or text a photo of the installation to our team with your school name!**

> [!WARNING]
>
> Before resetting or re-enrolling an already configured device, contact [Rocket support](https://rocketalumnisolutions.mintlify.site/getting-started/get-support.md). Do not repeat setup or reset instructions to troubleshoot an existing Backpack.

If you did not choose "Enroll with EloView" you will need to first [follow these steps to reset the device](https://elosupport.elotouch.com/hc/en-us/articles/31648419524503-Is-it-possible-to-return-to-EloView-3-EV3-mode-from-Android-Home). And then follow [these steps to enable future updates. ](https://elosupport.elotouch.com/hc/en-us/articles/31650281315479-How-do-I-update-Google-Chrome-on-my-GMS-enabled-devices)

## Open settings or change Wi-Fi on an existing Backpack

Use these steps for a confirmed Elo Backpack that is already configured. You do not need to see “Not found” to change its Wi-Fi network. Do not repeat enrollment or reset the device.

1. Click the Backpack's physical **Home** and **Power** buttons together three times without holding them. This can take more than one attempt.
2. On the white lock screen, tap the lock icon or swipe up and enter the device's current unlock password. For an installation still using defaults, the two screen-unlock options are listed in **Power on the touchscreen and Backpack** above.
3. Open the three-line menu in the top-right corner and select **Admin**. Enter the device's current Admin password. For an installation still using defaults, Admin uses the digit-prefixed default listed above; the other screen-unlock option is not the documented Admin default.
4. Open **Settings → Android Settings**. To change Wi-Fi, continue to **Network & Internet**, confirm Wi-Fi is on, and select the school network. Enter the school network password directly on the device; do not send it to Rocket.
5. If the saved network will not reconnect, forget it and connect again. Confirm the status shows **Connected**, then return to Rocket and check that your site loads.

If an access password is rejected, the menus differ, or the connection still fails, contact [Rocket support](https://rocketalumnisolutions.mintlify.site/getting-started/get-support.md). School IT may need to help with managed certificates or network settings. Do not factory-reset or reprovision the Backpack.

## If you selected GMS or Android

Elo provides instructions for [returning to EloView 3 (EV3) mode from Android Home](https://elosupport.elotouch.com/hc/en-us/articles/31648419524503-Is-it-possible-to-return-to-EloView-3-EV3-mode-from-Android-Home) and [updating Chrome on GMS-enabled devices](https://elosupport.elotouch.com/hc/en-us/articles/31650281315479-How-do-I-update-Google-Chrome-on-my-GMS-enabled-devices).

Contact [Rocket support](https://rocketalumnisolutions.mintlify.site/getting-started/get-support.md) before resetting an already configured device. A reset can erase provisioning and network settings; confirm the correct recovery procedure for your model first.
